Insect
/ Pest?
It is estimated that about 20% of crops grown for human consumption
are eaten by herbivorous (plant-eating) insects. Insects also
carry diseases that affect animals and human beings. The venom
of certain arthropods (e.g. spiders, scorpions and centipedes)
can be fatal, and many people have severe phobias about groups
such as spiders and moths.
|
|
|
|
|
|
Centipedes are dangerous to human by their
poisonous bites and stings. |

How would you feel when you see a cockroach crawling on the
food you prepared for supper or on the floor which you have

Rodent
(Rat & Mice)
There are three common species of rodent Rattus
norvegicus (Brown rat), Rattus
rattus (Black rat) and Mus musculus
(House mouse). Cosmopolitan rats and mice often live and feed
in and near buildings where standards of hygiene are poor. They
destroy crops and foodstuff, transmit disease and continuously
gnawing to damage your property. Rodents are clever mammals.
To eliminate rodent infestation, knowledge
about rodent feeding behaviour, reproduction and movement together
with years of experience are
required.

program. The rat died from internal breeding resulting
from intake of bait grains |
|
Rodents have the
ability to push themselves through
small gaps. Rodent proofing is crucial in control treatments.
Proofing is accomplished by blocking all entrance points,
with coarse grade stainless steel, wire wool etc.

duct. Note its flattened body as it "squeeze"
itself through the hole. Just like an acrobat! |

Smear marks
(black grease mark left by rodents on surfaces where their
bodies are frequently in contact with) are usually found
around these ducting in an infested area. |

"HELP! WE ARE STUCK!!!!"
During a survey, technicians will look for signs of rodents
infestation such as smear marks, droppings, tracks and
damages to goods and structures. These information help
to determine the species of rodent, degree of infestation,
etc and of course, the control technique to be employed.
|
|
|
|
One of the technique is to place rodent
glue boards strategically on rodent runs. A successful
example is shown here. These little mice were caught on
the false ceiling of a restaurant. No rodent sighting
was reported by the restaurant after the control program. |
